b. 1994 Houston, Texas. Lives and works in Atlanta, Georgia. Madeleine Hand is a multidisciplinary abstract artist and photographer interested in the relationship between visual expression and spoken language. Working across both large and small scale canvases, Hand creates a visual language of forms through a balance of compositional structure and intuitive touch. Her work is characterized by elegant line-based compositions on beautifully pale hues in background, capturing a minimal perception of motion and stillness. The pairing of strong gestural strokes with soft linear markings works to create a dynamic variety of contemporary abstraction. Drawing and photography are also a significant part of Hand's artistic process. They are shaped by the same motifs and ideas of abstraction which are integral to developing new techniques that fuse conventional materials such as charcoal and acrylic, with atypical mediums such as dirt and organic textures.
